Sometime this year, 5 billion people will be using mobile phones.    We’ve already gone past 4.6 billion at the end of December 2009,  according to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).    It’s hard to imagine such a staggering number, but it’s now becoming very rare for me to encounter someone who doesn’t carry a mobile phone.  In fact, an increasing number carry two phones (and one of them is likely a smartphone, like a Blackberry or an iPhone).

A change for Mobility Mind

I’ve been delaying this for a while, but I guess better late than never.  A couple of years ago, when I stopped using the Palm Treo and switched to the iPhone, I changed the name of this website from Treo Today to Mobility Mind.  With the changing focus to more mobile Internet and applications, rather than specifically on the Palm OS platform, the name change was timely.

It’s Mobile World Congress week, so expect a lot of mobile-related news coming out. Every year, telcos and their partners/suppliers congregate in Barcelona, Spain to show off current innovations and to share knowledge. Last year, I was fortunate enough to go to MWC for my company. This year, I’m reading the news from the usual sources just like you guys.

And the cat and mouse game continues. Last Tuesday, Apple released the latest version of the iPhone OS 3.1.3 (7E18). This was an unexpected release, since a lot of people were hoping for the 3.2 version which is on the new iPad.
