RIM’s iPhone contender : Blackberry Torch at $100
RIM, the makers of Blackberry, is still holding its own against Apple’s iPhone and also the dozens of new Android models. RIM’s latest salvo is called the Blackberry Torch. After the failure of the first two touchscreen Blackberry devices, this one might just be the one to watch.
Specs-wise, the Torch has more than enough to compete. It has a 3.2 inch touchscreen AND a slide-out physical QWERTY keyboard (ala the Palm Pre). It also adds on a 5 megapixel camera, 802.11n WiFi, and 4GB storage via microSD card. The Torch is also the first Blackberry device to feature the sexy new Blackberry 6 operating system, which has the new Webkit-based browser.
The real killer is probably the price. While the Torch is sold for $200 or $180 at most retailers, Amazon is currently selling it for only $100 with a two-year contract on AT&T. For die-hard Blackberry fans, this is a great deal. If you’re an iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS user, then you’ll probably want to skip this one.
Buy the BlackBerry Torch 9800 from Amazon for $99 (two year contract).
