New HTML versions of Yahoo Mail and Gmail for iPad
In the past few days, both Yahoo and Google updated their email services for the Apple iPad. What’s in common? Both are not iOS apps, but rather web-based apps running HTML5.

Yahoo Mail for the iPad is great at handling incoming media. For example, you can swipe through photos if a friend sent you a few of them in an email. You can also search through attachments and photos, not just the header and content of the email. It local caching to store messages within the browser’s memory so that you can do searches and read without being connected to the Web.

Google has had a HTML5 version of Gmail designed for the iPad for a while now, but they just did another update. The new version has a new “stacked card” interface for selecting and managing multiple conversations.
Google’s engineers also experimented with CSS3 transitions, which give mobile web applications a similar look and feel to native applications
