I’ve never owned an actual digital camera, but over the past few years I’ve taken thousands of digital photos. The first device that I had with a built-in digital camera was the Palm Zire 71. It had a very basic VGA-quality camera, just 300K Pixels with 640×480 resolution support. The image quality was so-so but since I had the Zire 71 with me all the time, I could take photos practically everywhere I went.

In case you missed it, yesterday, 23rd July 2007 was the 15th anniversary of text messaging. It was back in 1992 that the first SMSC (Short Message Service Centre) was released by a company called Acision. Fast forward a decade and a half later, the amount of text messages sent is simply staggering. For my home country Malaysia, by my rough estimation we send 160 million SMS each day — that’s 6 SMS for each person in the country, or around 8 per each mobile phone user.

For the past few days, I have used my Treo 650 smartphone a lot. My wife safely delivered our third child, a baby girl, on Friday morning (22nd June). Of course, my faithful Treo was there in the delivery room with us, making itself useful.

Now that some restrictions on hand-carried items and luggage are being relaxed, it could be safe to carry your Treo smartphone on the airplane again. In fact, sometime in the future your Treo could actually help you get on the plane in the first place. The Computing website reports that by 2010, UK airline passengers could be checking in and boarding flights using an electronic barcode transmitted to their mobile phone. British Airways and Virgin Atlantic are mentioned as some of the airlines considering this technology, which is already been in use at several airports including Tokyo and Beijing.
